There is much in the Southern tradition that offers an alternative American answer to the centralized, imperial government, economy, and ideologically charged culture under which we now live.
Current politics, scholarship, and education have worked overtime to purge the Southern tradition from the cultural and physical landscape, to banish it to one little dark corner labeled “slavery and treason.”
The Southern tradition contains a great deal that is worthy of preservation and application, and its suppression is a great loss to the intellect and culture of our time.
